The Challies Trout Pond is a shallow quarry ranging from 20 to 30ft (7 to 10m) in depth that is often used as a diver training area.  There is no current but there can be a thermocline. The pond is stocked with trout and has some bass.

There are two ways to enter the water. On the right of the parking area there is a shallow shelf which divers can step onto and then sit down do don fins, then slip off the ledge into about 20’ of water. To the North of the parking area there is a shallow sloping area where divers can make a walking entry. Depending on divers’ air supply and dive length desired, divers can swim across the pond and back or swim around the perimeter.
